In particular, FOCOS seeks to enhance access to optimal surgical and non-surgical care for patients with disabling musculoskeletal disorders including complex spine deformities and pediatric orthopaedic problems in underserved regions. It began as a dream of the founder to see the best care reach the underserved in his native country, Ghana and the sub-Saharan region.
Job Description
Summary of Main Duties
Undertakes internal stock take to ensure minimum shelf life and disposal of drugs
Ensure proper preparation, packaging, distribution and storage of vaccines, serums, biologicals and other drugs and pharmaceuticals
Coordinates the supply of drugs to the various departments/units and monitors the stock alevels accordingly
Be responsible for managing controlled medications such as narcotics per approved policy whilst at post
Check the verification of prescriptions information to ensure proper dosage. Renew existing prescriptions in limited circumstances.
Ensure the safe and secure storage and handling of medicines in the hospital whilst on duty.
Provides medicines information, advice and counselling services to other health staff and clients to enhance therapeutic outcomes. Maintain medication profiles of customers including registry of poisons and narcotic and controlled drugs
Compound prescribed pharmaceutical products by calculating, measuring and mixing the quantities of drugs and other ingredients required and filling appropriate containers with correct quantity
Dispense prescribed pharmaceuticals to customers or to other health care professionals and advise them on indications, contra-indications, adverse effects, drug interactions and dosage
Assist in developing policies for the pharmacy department
As a community pharmacy, treat diseases of common occurrences and provide medicine information, advice and counselling services to other health staff and clients to enhance therapeutic outcomes.
Advise customers on selection and use of non-prescription medication
May adapt the formulation, regimen, duration or route of administration of medication
Serves as an active member of the hospital quality assurance team.
Ensures maximum personal safety and that of others likely to be affected by actions or omissions
Adheres to the health and safety policies, guidelines/protocols in the facility (eg. the use of personal protective clothing/equipment).
Be in charge of the maintaining a safe, clean, and pleasant working environment.
Performs any other duties as assigned
Required Skills or Experience
Education & Qualifications
BSc in Pharmacy
Minimum of two (2) years working experience
Evidence of Continuous Professional development
Technical Knowledge/Skills
Knowledge of drug administration
Excellent understanding of Ghana Pharmacy Council’s Professional Code of Conduct
