Details of the offer

Chirano is located in southwestern Ghana, approximately 100 kilometres southwest of Kumasi, Ghana’s second largest city. The mine is within the Bibiani gold belt and consists of 11 deposits. Open pit and underground ore are processed at the Chirano plant. The capacity of the mill is approximately 3.5 million tonnes per annum. Processing involves crushing, ball mill grinding, leaching, and CIL.
Job Description
To lead the execution of the strategy for mine operations and to ensure alignment with the organization’s overall strategy.
Formulate short, intermediate and long term business plans for the mines to ensure continued growth of mine operations, maximizing operational efficiencies, safety, and profitability and to cultivate exceptional stakeholder and employee satisfaction.

Job Responsibilities
Maintain a harmonious working environment with colleagues and direct reports
Facilitate organizational and leadership effort to resolve employee relations issues
Identify succession role requirements and high potential talent, and actively develop key talent.
Set performance targets and measure, monitor, and manage the overall performance of your direct reports.
Responsible for conducting performance evaluations, recommending promotions, and carrying out corrective actions as needed.
Be responsible for the performance of subordinates
Ensure relevant Safety, Mining and other statutory Codes and Regulations remain in full compliance, and actively promote Safety Culture and Hazard Awareness on the Mine.
Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the underground Mine in both development and production at a trackless mechanized mine to maximize safety, operational efficiencies and profitability.
Set performance targets and measures, monitors, and manages the overall performance of employees and/or contract workers at the Underground (UG) Mine.
Effectively manage the annual operating and capital budgets for mine operations, consistent with Kinross’ established financial guidelines and business planning process.
Formulate and execute strategies that support the growth of mine operations; ensures strategies are linked to the organization’s overall strategy.
Advise and cooperate with all other departments affected by changes in mine operations and assists in overall mine management through interaction with other departments

Job Responsibilities cont’d
Determine staffing levels and personnel requirements for Underground Operations.
Ensure there is a comprehensive and effective succession management strategy in place for the operation; identifies succession role requirements and high potential talent and actively develops key talent
Responsible for the Forecasting / Strategic Business Planning / Budgeting, and formulate training strategies for all UG Staff.
Build the capabilities of the mining team to enhance the mine operation’s ability to achieve financial and operating strategies; leverages the talents of the operation, identifies gaps and takes corrective action where necessary.
Evaluate operation policies and directives to ensure consistency with safe operating procedures.
Establish safety and training standards with assistance from the safety department
Conduct disciplinary cases as chairman and represent the rules and standards of Kinross
Perform other duties as may be assigned by your supervisor in accordance with the Company’s policies

Education and Experience
Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
Underground Manager’s certificate of competency
Valid driver’s license, defensive driving skills with the ability to drive underground
Must have a minimum of 10 years working experience in an underground mining environment
Additional specialized training or education in business management, operations management, safety and risk assessment, or continuous improvement
Must have statutory certification as an Underground Manager.
Must have knowledge and understanding of the Duty of Care Standards, Occupational Health & Safety Regulations, and Mining Inspection Act & Regulations.
Must have a thorough understanding of underground mining operations and solid safety performance at the personal and professional level.
Experience in multiple underground mining methods, use of explosives, ground support, and backfill placement
Must be able to apply standards, policies, and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data.
Working knowledge of underground rock mechanics, mine planning, survey, ventilation requirements, and principles.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft applications including word, excel, power-point, and outlook.
Budgeting, planning, and scheduling experience required as well as financial (cost) management
Experience managing diverse employees (language, cultural, religious, etc)
Ability to oversee contract administration and contractor management
Management skills with the ability to engage and transfer knowledge to all direct reports
Ability to communicate effectively both written and oral and apply appropriate discipline when required
Flexible rotations including night shift and demonstrated ability to work under pressure safely
