About This Role: To provide leadership, management and supervision for the maintenance activities of the process plant and associated infrastructure. To assist in the development and implementation of training programs for the workforce using Newmont’s safety, environmental and maintenance practices as an integral component of the job role. People Management Manage and supervise the process maintenance section to achieve safe, cost-effective preventative maintenance of all infrastructures, fixed and mobile plant, through the development and implementation of short/long term strategies. Assist in the development and implementation of training programmes for the workforce in performing the maintenance tasks for the Ahafo North process plant. Deputize for the Process Manager role during periods of leave. Ensure that staff training and development programs are conducted in accordance with Newmont’s people development programs. Ensure the transfer of technology from expatriate to national employees and the promotion and support of national employees’ training and skill development. Planning, Scheduling and Continuous Improvement Develop and implement maintenance strategies that utilize Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) techniques and budget control that will deliver the optimum process plant availability and operating costs. Actively participate in continuous improvement programs which will assist in enhancing the performance of the Ahafo North process plant operation. Initiate projects and direct activities leading to continuous improvement of safety and production. Ensure all equipment are properly serviced and maintained. Be responsible for managing owner and contract maintenance personnel supporting the processing plant. Oversee design, planning, and coordination of shut-downs. Ensure that job procedures, work flows and special work needs are available and implemented. Forecast long-term (Life of Mine) maintenance / material requirements for the process plant in conjunction with Supply Chain Management (SCM) and prepare and issue long-range schedules, budgets and forecasts. Additional Responsibilities: Financial Management Prepare budgets, recommend purchase of capital equipment and selection of vendors, prepare Authorization for Expenditure (AFE’s) for capital projects. Coordinate with the stores/procurement section to ensure that all the necessary maintenance parts and supplies are available to maintain the process plant and associated facilities. Prepare maintenance operating cost forecasts, budgets and monthly maintenance reports. Appropriately manage the capital program for the process maintenance section:As an AFE Manager for sustaining capital, ensure - timeliness in submission of AFEs, quality of submitted AFEs and timeliness of capital spend.As a Cost Center Manager with sustaining capital, ensure that expenditure will be within set target ranges, adjusted for changes in planning assumptions and decisions.As an AFE Manager with a closed project, ensure - prompt closing out of projects, project deliverables have been met. Be responsible for input to the business planning process. Be responsible for budgeting and cost control for a number of cost centers. Be accountable for approval of purchases and expenditure within the delegated limits of authority. Project Management Oversee process maintenance projects. Control and direct project status in maintenance section. Initiate corrective action to deliver projects on time and within cost by ensuring project compliance and quality are achieved while identifying improvement opportunities. Lead the Ahafo North Process Maintenance function from project stage to production, key responsibilities include;Review of plant engineering and recommend changes to improve maintainability in the design.Complete all stage gate deliverable and documentation for process maintenance function (Business Recovery Plan (BRP), Project Execution Plan (PEP) and cost estimation).Review and manage initial spares and warehouse inventory levels.Recruit and train personnel as per the staffing and training plan.Set up maintenance service agreements with various contractors.Set up tools, materials, and consumables for startup.Set up the maintenance workshop with tools, equipment and consumables.Actively participate in Engineering, Procurement, Construction Management (EPCM) pre-commissioning and wet commissioning activities.Assist the Site Services department with the maintenance of the potable water plant and sewage treatment plant.Maintain the infrastructure electrical system. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. Additional Knowledge: Equivalent combination of training and experience in leading a large multi-national processing plant. Experience: Minimum of 12 years’ experience as a Maintenance Superintendent in a large process plant environment. Note: Extensive maintenance supervisory experience is a prerequisite for the job. Process plant commissioning and start-up experience would be a plus. Work experience in an overseas environment and training a national workforce is desirable. Work experience on a large Greenfield construction projects is desirable. Management and supervisory experience in a developing country with a large group of employees, both staff and hourly. Technical Skills: Strong working knowledge in the maintenance of crushers and grinding mill equipment. Strong working knowledge in the maintenance of large slurry pumps and reducers. Strong working knowledge in maintenance planning systems – SAP/MIMS. Strong working knowledge of budget and cost control in a process maintenance environment. High-level communication skills – verbal and written. Advance computer literacy skills - MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and MS Project.
