Job Description:
Do you have a good general knowledge of data entry, customer service, attention to detail, and able to multitask? If sothe PesticideCertification/LicensingProgramsiscurrently recruiting for an Office Specialist 2 position.

As theOffice Specialist 2you willprimarily responds to telephone inquiries as to need for licensing and licensing procedures, including determining appropriate types and categories of pesticide related licensing needed by individuals and companies. Greets visitors, answers telephone and responds to requests for general information on programs or directs persons to appropriate program management or technical staff. Assists with other office tasks.

As theOffice Specialist 2you will assist in processing applications for pesticide applicator, apprentice, aerial, consultant, operators, and trainee licenses and reviews for compliance with laws/regulations, and will be the first point of contract for the Pesticide and Fertilizer Programs.

OurOffice Specialist 2is afull-time permanent position service, located in Salem, Oregon, andis represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).

We, atOregon Department of Agriculture(ODA ), ensure healthy natural resources, environment, and economy for Oregonians. Protect people and the environment from any adverse effects of pesticide use while maintaining the availability of pesticides for beneficial uses. Also insure that effective fertilizer, agricultural mineral, agricultural amendment, and lime products are provided for agricultural and consumer uses?.

Working conditions

Daily contact with agency staff, public and industry regarding program requirements and activities. Contact with angry and concerned individuals, appropriate reaction and response in such situations is critical. Large volume of phone calls. Frequent interruptions. Prioritizing daily tasks. Be flexible and adaptable and ability to juggling several issues at one time.

This is what you need to qualify
Two years of general clerical experience, one year of which included typing, word processing, or other experience generating documents; OR

An Associate's degree in Office Occupations or Office Technology;
OR graduation from a private school of business with a Certificate in Office Occupations or Office Technology and one year of general clerical experience.

College courses in Office Occupations or Office Technology will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Skill in performing a variety of clerical functions.

Skill in communicating orally and in writing with a variety of people, answering questions and gathering and exchanging information.

Skill in organizing work efficiently and exercising independent judgment in making appropriate decisions concerning work methods.

Skill in applying specific, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures to work performed.
